Who is Adebiyi Sijibomi Benet?
Obiwon7Adebiyi Sijibomi Benet is the CEO of Makabis & Benet. He is a purpose driven, unassuming but focused and meticulous young man who has over the years distinguished himself as an all round events consultant, thereby positioning Makabis & Benet as an event solution provider in both social and corporate circles.
Sijibomi is a graduate of Geology who started out as a manager in the family business of General office equipments' sales and                   procurement. A youth coordinator during his school days, organizing many rehttp://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7652659090992946208#editor/target=page;pageID=4923941807818906439union parties and end of the year gatherings, Siji rediscovered his love for events in 2007 and thus proceeded to train at Zapphaire Events. He took time to hone his skills by working with Zapphaire events for 13 months (after the stipulated 6 months of training) in his capacity as a Corporate Events Executive. He thereafter proceeded to establish Makabis & Benet. A recipient of both Basic & Advanced Leadership Certificates from the prestigious Daystar Leadership Academy. He also holds a certificate in professional Business Etiquette from Carmel & Goddard Management training centre. He has helped in facilitating various seminars and trainings both within and outside the event industry.
NWM: Can you tell us about Makabis & Benet?
Makabis & Benet was established in 2008, as a public relations and event management company with the mission of creating uniquely developed event concepts combined with a successful and impeccable delivery. We are a team of creative minds gifted with invaluable skills required in creating exceptional memories, this we have appropriately combined with attention to details to make us the preferred event channel in a fast paced world where creativity and exactness are craved.
Our knack for creating fabulously crafted events and a zeal to constantly provide unparalleled and outstanding services are reflective in all our business facets (Event packaging, Event Management, Event branding, Venue design and styling). Also our passion to modify your fantasies and dreams into a reality which you have always wished is unmatched.
For social events (weddings, birthdays etc), much of the design is decorations unlike beach parties, concerts, shows and sports events.
We also take into cognizance the imperative of planning, styling and managing our events with finesse and for a resolve to meeting our events goals. We deploy the required personnel/resources to make our events successful.
We provide top-notch services for all our events needs and with us, you can be assured of a mind-blowing spectacle as we strive to continually build a relationship that starts and ends with you.
NMW: Can you speak briefly on your relationship with your former boss, Mrs Bucknor-Obruthe?
Very good, very cordial but because of the hyper-busy nature of the trade we ply, everyone hardly gets the time to pay visits especially when you don't live or work along the same axis with the other person. However, we still keep sound relationship. Yesterday was her birthday. I sent her birthday wishes and she replied with appreciation. Once in a while we bump into each other, we sit down and gist.
I believe she is a woman of great strength, influence and selflessness, I also believe she deserves every bit of success she has achieved (and even more) in the industry as well as compliments especially from us who at one time or the other got tutored by her.
NMW:  You are now a name internationally, how did you (make the jump) beyond the borders of Nigeria?
Although we have not worked outside Nigeria, we have been getting a lot of jobs from Nigerians in Diaspora coming back home for their events and we will be executing an event in a West African country in the first quarter of 2012. This we have been able to achieve via referrals from our jobs, comprehensive & frequently updated website presence, adverts and most importantly His Grace. We also do a lot of research to understand people, places and update ourselves regularly. In spite of the inbred flair and ability to manage events, I still subjected myself to the rigor of proper training and that's why I could be trusted enough to have been given the responsibility of a week-long presidential wedding. I learnt from one of the best hands in this industry and Nigeria, and I came out refined as a finished product.
NMW: Why wedding decor?
We are not only into wedding decor but Events decor, design/styling, concept development and management.
NMW: What keeps the fire burning within you because you seem to have been in this business for years?
The smile and the look of satisfaction our clients wear after their events. It motivates than the money which sometimes is not really the worth of what you are giving back in terms of service. It really motivates us. We talk about it later and are happy with ourselves.

NMW: What is your educational background?
I am a university graduate of Geology from the University of Ado Ekiti, Masters in view.
NMW: Are there any individuals that you believe have influenced you and your work?
Yes as His Word says give honor to whom honor is due. Not to publicize anyone but my former boss & colleagues have been helpful in terms of my planning/management/coordination expertise. A close friend of mine (also in the industry) in terms of decorations, My Pastor, immediate family and my friends in terms of character and integrity. In the midst of it all, my mom is a great support to me.

NMW: Are you married? If Yes, How do you balance these two jobs especially if you have to travel outside the country regularly?
I am single but getting married soon. Home & career are two vital aspects of a man's life and with Grace and Wisdom; a man should know how to balance them.
NMW: Tell us something unique about Nigerian weddings? What makes them stand out so much that majority of your work is done on Nigerian weddings apart from the fact that you are Nigerian?
Nigerian weddings are big, though the new generation is trying to make it smaller but they are still big and most times carnival like. We are also colorful people and my tribe (Yoruba) is a peculiar tribe when it comes to celebrations. We can be likened to the Indians who have big weddings too. It therefore runs in the blood as you have to belong to either of the groups; the ones who are being waited on or the ones who wait on people. I have chosen to be a service boy or man.
NMW: Do you see events as a challenge monetarily, especially in weddings?
Yes as you have to understand your client, the event, incorporate yourself into the family (social or corporate), earn their trust and ultimately meet and surpass their expectations.
NMW: In your opinion, what is the level of quality events in Nigeria? Is it stagnant or developing?
It is developing at a very alarming rate. Check out our shows/concerts now, hall facilities, vendors’ expertise, equipments etc. You need to check out all other African (say West African) countries to appreciate what we have achieved thus far.
NMW: Do you think there is more you can do in your field or are you content with the way things are?
There is definitely more to be done, we are insatiable beings by nature - Oliver Twist. We are better than last year and we will keep getting better.

NMW: How was the Namywedding-dream wedding experience for you covering the first celeb dream wedding – Obiwon?
Awesome, partnering with Na My Wedding was awesome and I look forward to working with you guys again. You have a pleasant, brilliant team and your choice of the celeb (Obiwon) was a very good one as he is a pleasant person too. It was a terrific experience all through.
NMW: Don’t you ever get tired? How do you relax?
Everybody gets tired at a point but for me I don’t get to that point. Relaxation for me is a daily thing. I work late into the nights and wake up late thereby sleeping well enough. I also once in a while travel. Once in a while, I also visit my parent in my state; this is good relaxation for me.
NMW: what is your favorite feature for planning an event or decor?
I work with any theme given or developed. I take my time to ensure my clients open up and from there; it’s a jolly good ride.
NMW: What are your parting words?
For upcoming people, be meticulous, have integrity, have a positive attitude. There are a whole lot of opportunities in the industry with so many that are untapped. The vital ingredient needed is Competence i.e. go through the requisite training, integrity and diligence. When you earn people’s trust, they will be the one to help you discover some inherent abilities in you and take you to your next level.
Finally, be the best, never leave anything to waste.
NWM: Thank you.
